Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy takes centre stage in this radiant, spiritually charged programme. The evening opens with Psalm 42: “Wie der Hirsch schreiet”, a deeply intimate reflection on longing and faith. It is followed by the monumental Lobgesang (Symphony No. 2), a powerful fusion of symphony and cantata composed in celebration of the invention of printing. Biblical texts and chorales lead the music from darkness into jubilant praise. Collegium performs Lobgesang for the first time, joining forces with the Basel Chamber Orchestra in a collaboration that promises clarity, expressive depth, and a compelling reading of Mendelssohn’s visionary score.
